A Bench headed by Chief Justice of India KG Balakrishnan said it would hear the petition seeking stay of the High Court on Tuesday.

Rejecting the plea seeking stay on High Court order, the apex court said that ban would come into effect from August 1.

Meanwhile, private bus and minibus owners have filed a special leave petition in the apex court against it.

Earlier, the High Court had passed an order on July 18, 2008 asking the State Government to ban all public vehicles like buses, mini buses and lorries which had crossed 15 years from registration.

The State Government has decided to implement the High Court order, which was opposed by the 19 organisations of transport operators. (ANI)
