Sweden's largest harvest festival to open in Oeland

Sweden's largest harvest festival to open in Oeland Faerjestaden, Sweden  - The Baltic Sea island of Oeland will celebrate the largest harvest festival in Sweden from September 24-27.

More than 900 activities and events centred on food and handicrafts are planned. Restaurants, cafes, shops and farmers' markets will present dishes typical of the region during the four-day Skoerdefest. Oeland's tourism bureau recommends visitors try the island's national dish called Kroppkakor. These are potato dumplings served with cranberry marmalade and cream or butter.

The annual harvest festival combines the food-tasting experience with art. One of the highlights of the festival is art night on September 25. Many artists keep their studios open to visitors until late in the evening. Oeland has been a retreat for artists and craftsmen and women since the 19th century. (dpa)
