Talks between Karnataka Government, doctors fail

Talks between Karnataka Government, doctors failBangalore, Sep 29 : The stalemate between the Karnataka Government and doctors over salary hike shows no sign of ending, as a meeting held here on Tuesday ended without any significant solution.

The doctors have been demanding incentives suitable to their profession, parity in pay scale, regularising the services of doctors appointed on contract, banning all future appointments of doctors on contract, and time-bound promotions, which the Government refused to accept.

“If the Government does not accept our demand, we will not come to work from October 15,” said H. N. Ravindra President of the Karnataka Government Medical Officers Association (KGMOA).

According to reports, doctors have turned down Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa’s appeal to wait till October 4 for a decision on the issue.

It is also reported that around 3,800 doctors, who are upset with the State Government for not meeting their demands, will submit their resignations as a group to the Principal Secretary (Health and Family Welfare) I R Perumal.

Government doctors at the beginners level get a monthly pay of Rs. 18,500, which the Association has demanded to be raised to at least Rs. 35,000, in negotiations the Government has offered a pay hike ranging between Rs. 3,000 and Rs. 8,000.

The Association is still adamant with their demands and has set October 14 as the deadline for the Government to accept its demand. (ANI)
