Tata Ace touches the one-lakh mark

Ravi-Pisharody-TATA-MOTORSRavi Pisharody, President of Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles Business Unit must be a very happy man these days as the light commercial vehicle Tata Ace which was launched five years ago by Tata Motors literally sparked a revolution in the humble goods carrier segment.

For the uninitiated, in the price range of around Rs. 2.4 lakh, Ace was the country's first mini-truck on four wheels with a sub-one tonne capacity. Though, the commercial vehicle industry may get on its knees after the slowdown blues came into picture but they weren't able to give a dent to the unit sales of Tata Ace as it sold units close to 81,000 vehicles in 2008-09.

However, it was only last fiscal that it crossed the one-lakh tag as the Ace sold 110,032 units being the first product in the goods carrier segment to cross the one-lakh mark in unit sales.

With three products under the Ace umbrella, Ace HT, the Ace Ex (with stop-start technology) and the Super Ace (one-tonne), the company launched the passenger vehicle variant in the form of Magic in the year 2007 which is also doing decent numbers in the market.
