Bangkok- That shares rose 3.01 per cent in value Tuesday on growing optimism over the US economy, prompting a speculative splurge.

The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index ended at 556.47, up 16.25 points or 3.01 per cent.

"There were a lot of foreign speculators on the market today who may have missed the train a few weeks ago," said Adkinson Securities analyst Chaiyot Chitwankul.

The SET started to recover about two weeks ago, along with other regional markets, boosted by signs that the US economy might recover. The optimism on Wall Street on Monday was prompted by a rise in the US construction index.(dpa)
