TN Doctors Call Off Their Proposed Strike

TN Doctors Call Off Their Proposed StrikeIn a major development, possible strike action by government doctors in Tamil Nadu on Monday has been called off.

Following discussions with the State Government, the Tamil Nadu Government Doctors Association (TNGDA) on Sunday called off their token strike scheduled for Monday.

The association had called for the token strike to press for implementing the "Special Doctors Promotion Scheme" that would provide pay parity to levels recommended by the 6th Central Pay Commission.

As per TNGDA, many doctors were continuing in the same positions despite many years of service.

Speaking on this, M R K Panneerselvam (Health Minister, Tamil Nadu) said: "It has been decided to form a committee under the leadership of finance department special secretary Praveen Kumar, to look into the demands of doctors."

The minister further added that the committee will submit its report by the end of this month and the government will make decisions within one month of receiving the report.

Nearly 12,000 doctors from the state were likely to join the proposed strike on Monday.
