Tokyo stocks up on weaker yen, Wall Street's overnight rise Tokyo  - Tokyo stocks rose Friday as a falling yen led to the buying of export-oriented issues and Wall Street's overnight gains boosted confidence in an economic recovery.

The benchmark Nikkei 225 Stock Average soared 149.48 points, or 1.53 per cent, to 9,942.42.

The broader-based Topix index was also up 12.26 points, or 1.35 per cent, at 920.95.

On currency markets at 9 am (0000 GMT), the dollar traded at 94.93-98 yen, up from Thursday's 5 pm quote of 94.35-36 yen.

The euro traded at 1.4160-65 dollars, down from late Thursday's quote of 1.4234-35 dollars, and at 134.47-52 yen, up from 134.30-34 yen. (dpa)
