TVS Motor to foray into US market with ‘Apache RTR’
Two wheeler maker TVS Motor Company has decided to launch its premium 160cc bike Apache RTR in the US market, by this year.
It should be noted that if the company enters the US market, it will be the second indigenous player to foray into that market, the first being Royal Enfield bike. The US market is considered amongst the top 10 two-wheeler industry in the world, with China as the largest, followed by India.
Further, the Chennai-based two-wheeler company stated in a communiqué that it has cleared the mandatory technical and emission tests for its bike and plans to launch it later this year. The company expects to start shipping bikes in the next few months.
Presently, TVS Motors Company has presence in a few overseas markets, including a 300,000-unit a year manufacturing facility in Indonesia. The firm also sells its bikes, scooters and mopeds in Latin America, South-East Asia and Africa.
Yesterday, the company has launched its premium motorcycle Apache RTR 180 in Indian market, at an introductory price of Rs 63,990. The company aims to sell 15,000-17,000 bikes from its Apache RTR 160, RTR 160 Fi and RTR 180 within next two years.
