Two Maoists killed in OrissaKolkata June 22 : The 48 hour shut down called by the CPI (Maoist) turned violent as the ultras triggered a land mine attack on security forces in Jharkhand and two Maoists were killed in Orissa. Two Naxals were killed in a stiff gun battle with Special Operation Group (SOG) in Malkangiri district of Orissa. According to District Police Chief Satyabrat Bhoi the gun battle took place when the group was conducting a combing operation.

As the security forces continued their operation against Maoists in Lalgarh for the 5th day, the West Bengal state government has asked the guerillas to surrender their weapon and come to the mainstream to bring peace.

Normal life was affected in Naxal dominated West Midnapore, Purulia and Bankura districts of West Bengal and Gaya district of Bihar as shops and business establishments remained closed.

Meanwhile an anti land mine vehicle carrying security personnel to Ghatshila in East Singhbhum district was blown up by the Maoists using land mines at Baramara near Jharkhand -West Bengal border.

According to Superintendent of Police of East Singhbhum, Navin Kumar Singh no personnel were heart, in the incident. The security has been beefed up along the border with West Midnapore, as the security forces started flushing out the ultras.

In Bihar, the State Government has instructed the superintendents of police of all the districts to keep an extra vigil and be prepared to face any untoward incident. Police patrolling has been intensified along the railway track and the security for all long distance trains passing through Bihar been tightened.

The train services remained suspended on the Purulia-Chandil in West Bengal since last night in view of reports of landmine being planted on the tracks at Birandi station. (ANI)
