Several women in the UK, who underwent surgery to be fitted with the breast implants manufactured in France, are planning to take legal actions after the implants were found to be linked to cancer risks.

About 250 women in the UK are planning to sue clinics that used implants that were produced by French firm, Poly Implant Prostheses (PIP). The authorities in France might soon announce that about 30,000 women, who underwent the treatment with implants, might have them taken off due to the risks associated with the implants.

Some researchers in the UK have assured that there is not need for the women to get them removed as they are not linked to risks of cancer. However, about 250 women with implants from PIP are planning to sue six clinics in the UK.

Hugh James solicitors in the UK are taking the legal action on the behalf of some of the women. Mark Harvey, a partner at Hugh said that they were first planning to pursue claims against PIP due decided to sue clinics as PIP has closed down.

He added that the clinics had assured the women that the implants will last a lifetime and would not rupture or leak silicone. However, some patients have complained of inflammation, fatigue and fibromyalgia. He clarified that they are not sure if the implants are linked but some women have complained of its affects on their health.

The department of health has said that Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) have found after consulting health and regulatory teams that the implants are not linked to the risks of the disease.

A spokesman said: "They all agreed that there was no evidence of any increase in incidents of cancer associated with PIP breast implants and no evidence of any disproportionate rupture rates. This is in line with UK findings. MHRA is currently advising that women with any concerns should make an appointment with their implanting surgeon and have a full discussion."
