US film star Matt Dillon detained for speeding

US film star Matt Dillon detained for speeding New York - US film star Matt Dillon had a New Year's Eve he would rather forget when he spent several hours in police custody after being caught speeding, the entertainment internet site E! Online reported Thursday.

It said the 44-year-old was stopped by police in the north-eastern state of Vermont, where he was timed at 106 miles (171 kilometres) per hour, far above the 65 miles per hour speed limit.

Dillon was fingerprinted and photographed by police while in custody. The Hollywood star - an Oscar winner in the film "L. A. Crash" - was to appear in a local court on January 21 for a hearing. If convicted he could face a three-month prison sentence. (dpa)
