Washington, Feb. 18 : The United State has said that it is still trying to find out the details of the accord signed between the Pakistan Government and the Taliban to implement the `sharia' law in the Swat Valley.

Talking to media persons here, US State Department deputy spokesperson, Gordon K. Duguid said Washington was still trying to find out the strategy of the Pakistani government for dealing with the militants operating in the Swat Valley.

Duguid said the Pakistan's Constitution has a provision for such laws, and the issue is not of great concern for the international community.

"The Islamic law is within the constitutional framework of Pakistan. So, I don''t know that is particularly an issue for anyone outside of Pakistan to discuss," The Dawn quoted Duguid, as saying.

He said the real issue for the United States was to clamp down the cross-border terrorism along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.

"We''ve seen these sorts of actions before. What is, of course, important is that we are all working together to fight terrorism and particularly to fight the cross-border activities that the Taliban is engaged in," he said.

When reminded that the NATO had shown its discomfort regarding the new Islamic law saying that it would lead to an increase in extremist activities by providing safe havens for it, Duguid refused to comment saying he had not gone through the full context of the NATO's statement. (ANI)
