American singer tells Michele Bachmann to stop using his song at campaign rallies New York, June 29: American singer-songwriter Tom Petty has asked Republican candidate for the 2012 US presidential election Michele Bachmann to stop using his song “American Girl” at her campaign rallies.

Bachmann, who officially announced her run for the White House yesterday, took to the stage at the event to the sounds of Petty’s hit tune from his 1976 debut album.

According to the New York Post, Petty’s management team sent Bachmann’s campaign a cease and desist letter on Monday.

Petty had, however, given Hillary Clinton’s campaign permission to use “American Girl” during her 2008 run for president. (ANI)
