Washington, Dec 5 : Republican Presidential contender Michele Bachmann has slammed the Iowa Supreme Court’s decision to legalize gay marriages.
“Marriage, historically, for all human history has been between a man and a woman. It hasn''t been the same-sex marriage,” Bachmann said during an interview with Fox News.
“And remember that in Iowa, it was judges that made the decision, not the legislature, which are the people''s representatives, and certainly, not the people,” she added.
The Minnesotan Congresswoman argued that Iowans are also against gay marriage, the New York Daily News reports.
She pointed out that the removal of three out of seven state Supreme Court justices by Iowa voters last year was proof enough of the conservative vote stance judges striking down a law restricting marriage to straight couples.
Bachman’s latest gay marriage pronouncement came just days after she and a gay rights activist in Iowa made headlines over the issue.
Jane Schmidt, 16, asked Bachmann what she would do if elected to support the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community. Bachmann responded by saying she would work to guarantee the same civil rights enjoyed by all American citizens. (ANI)
