Bill Clinton’s first rally for Obama, doubts about commitment rebound

Bill Clinton’s first rally for Obama, doubts about commitment reboundA month after his emotional endorsement speech at Barack Obama’s convention, former president, Bill Clinton heads out to Florida for his first rally for Obama. Officially, this means Clinton has set aside wounded feelings that arose after Obama defeated Hillary Clinton for the Democratic presidential nomination.

Bill Clinton has gone on record saying that though Republican John McCain is “a great man”, Democrat Barack Obama too would exhibit “greatness” as president, and will do what he can to get him elected on November 4. Clinton added that he admires McCain, yet believes Obama would be the better president.

Clinton’s appearances in two politically volatile areas - Orlando and Fort Pierce - mark his first in the general election season. He is being deployed to get more people to register to vote before the deadline in Florida and other states on Monday. In addition, he is also expected to campaign in Michigan, Pennsylvania, Nevada and Ohio to encourage people to take part in early voting.

Even though Hillary Clinton has addressed a number of rallies for Obama, and has tried to organize supporters of her campaign into a pro-Obama network, the unpredictability of her husband, the former two-time Democratic president, keeps resurfacing.

Once again, despite all his scheduled agenda, Clinton’s alleged lack of discipline and his potential to inflict damage on Obama’s prospects rebounded, when McCain released a new television ad, using a clip of Clinton blaming the Democrats and Obama for the credit crisis.

Clinton already had dug himself deep in an interview with NBC, when, pressed to reply to whether he liked or admired Obama, he said he hardly knew him until they had lunch on September 11. He said: “Look, I had my first conversation with him in my entire life in Harlem. I had talked to him but always in passing ... Hillary is the one who told me to go help him. She said, ‘This guy’s got real skills. He’s got almost unlimited potential.’ And so I did.”
