Boeing postpones Dreamliner delivery again

Boeing postpones Dreamliner delivery again Seattle, Jan 19 : Airlines around the world will have to wait some more for the new long-haul jet 787 Dreamliner, US aviation giant Boeing has said, with first delivery now expected in the third quarter.

"This revised timeline for first delivery accommodates the work we believe remains to be done to complete testing and certification of the 787," Scott Fancher, vice president and general manager of the 787 programme, said.

The new delivery date was the result of an "in-flight incident during testing" in November 2010, and also includes the time required to produce, install and test updated software and new electrical power distribution panels in the flight test and production airplanes, Boeing said in a statement.

Late December 2010, Boeing said it was resuming test flights of the 787 Dreamliner. The fleet of six test aircraft was grounded Nov 9 after an electrical fire on board one of the planes caused it to lose power and make an emergency landing in Texas.

The plane, which uses composite plastics and carbon fibres and an all-electrical control system to save fuel, has been dogged by constant delays. Originally scheduled to be launched into commercial service in 2008, the first planes had been scheduled for delivery in 2011 before the last mishap.(DPA)
