Can Obama Finish It Off With Puerto Rico Democratic Primary?

Can Obama Finish It Off With Puerto Rico Democratic Primary?Sen. Barack Obama presently has 1959 delegates, which includes his 1653 pledged delegates and 306 superdelegates, and total 2,026 delegates are required to win the Democratic Party’s nomination.

That means Obama needs 67 more delegates to win the nomination, but Puerto Rico, which is an open primary, has 55 pledged delegates which will be at stake on 1 June.

Puerto Rico also has 8 unpledged "superdelegates". Out of 8 unpledged "superdelegates" of Puerto Rico, 4 superdelegates have announced support for Sen. Hillary Clinton and 2 have announced support for Sen. Barack Obama.

So, Obama needs to score a sweeping victory in Puerto Rico, if he wants to end the race with Puerto Rico Democratic Primary, but in the Research & Research Puerto Rico Poll, conducted between March 31-April 5, 2008 showed Clinton leading Obama by 13 % points – 50 % to 37 % among the Puerto Rico Democratic Primary voters. Thus the Puerto Rico Poll doesn’t favor Obama.

But, Obama can very much finish his race on 1 June, if he could win 50 % of the uncommitted superdelegates. There still are 210 uncommiteed superdelegates waiting and watching the race closely.
