Yes, Sex can lead to stroke. The chances of stroke after sex are very rare but not impossible; the chances of stroke after sexual activity increase if the woman is suffering from heart problem. This displeasing fact was brought to light by the case of a 35 year-old woman who suffered stroke after having sex with her boyfriend. She was admitted to hospital after complaint of slurred speech, losing sensation in left side of face and weakening of left arm, minutes after having sexual intercourse..
Doctors at the Loyola University Medical Centre, Illinois in US added that the stroke could be due to a number of reasons including birth control pills, a venous blood clot, sexual intercourse and a heart defect.
The contraceptives increase the risk of blood clots. Doctors found that a small clot, formed in one of the veins in her thigh, broke loose, and moved to heart's upper right pumping chamber.
Jose Biller, one of the doctors from Loyola University Medical Centre, said: "In this case, there was a hole in a wall of the heart. Pressure changes in the heart, triggered by sexual intercourse, enabled the clot to travel through the hole from the right atrium to the left atrium."
He added, "From there, the clot traveled up to the brain. It lodged in a narrow blood vessel, blocking blood flow to an area of the brain that controls movements on the left side of the body."
When this woman was admitted to Loyola University Medical Center she had stroke score of 13. But her stroke score dropped to 3 after 12 hours and to 1 after two months.
