Clinton Leads Obama Nationally – Recent Poll

clinton_obamaIt’s probably the first time when Sen. Hillary Clinton has been shown leading nationally by any poll. Certainly, Clinton has never been least favorite or second choice of Democrats, although Sen. Barack Obama has made some fantastic wins in the recent past.

Yes, Clinton is in position to beat the Republican rival, Sen. John McCain nationally, if the election were held right now; she would get 51% of the vote while McCain would get 46% across the nation. That’s what the latest USA TODAY/Gallup Poll has estimated.

Showing Clinton first time in the nationwide lead, the latest USA TODAY/Gallup Poll has indicated that Obama would get 49% while McCain would get 47%, if the election were held today. So, according to the poll, in any case, whether Clinton or Obama gets the Party’s nomination, Democrats are certain to win election.

The poll has signaled that the Democrats have over taken the Republican rival, McCain, who was shown in lead in the last USA TODAY/Gallup poll conducted from Feb. 21-24, which showed McCain leading Clinton 50% to 46%, and McCain leading Obama 48% to 47%.

Conducted from 14 Mar to 16 Mar, from Friday through Sunday surveying 685 "likely" voters across the nation, the latest USA TODAY/Gallup Poll has articulated that the margin of error on each result is +/- 4 percentage points, which means that Clinton could get as low as 47% (51-4=47), Obama could get as low as 45% (49-4=45), and McCain could get as high as 50% (because 46+4=50). So, neither Clinton nor Obama lead McCain "outside" that margin in the new poll.

But, it’s important to remember that polls are expressions of the current public opinion; they can’t surely forecast what will happen in November. It should also be noted that the current poll has come when Obama campaign is little struggling due to Obama’s association with the indicted Chicago real estate developer, Antoin "Tony" Rezko and his former pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright.
