It appears that the airline industry is offering bait of new services to lure passengers. Atlanta, Georgia based Delta Air Lines announced on Tuesday that they would offer broadband wireless Internet access on its entire domestic mainline fleet by next summer.
In its statement yesterday, Delta said it would sell Wi-Fi service to customers traveling throughout the continental United States. The airline is working with Aircell, an airborne communications provider, to install the network on Delta’s domestic fleet of more than 330 aircraft.
According to Delta, the fliers with Wi-Fi-enabled devices like laptops, smartphones and personal digital assistants will be able to access the Internet while in flight. The service will cost $9.95 on flights of three hours or less, and $12.95 on longer flights.
Continental Airlines announced the similar service on Jan. 29, 2008. Furthermore, several other airlines are planning to offer similar services. According to the reports from the industry, American Airlines will offer the Wi-Fi service year on 15 of its 767-200 aircraft, which generally fly transcontinental routes, thru Aircell later this. The US Airways Group plans to offer Wi-Fi service on a trial basis on one Airbus aircraft in the fall.
