Two-time Academy Award- and Golden Globe-winning American actor & director, Denzel Washington is all set to star in the futuristic drama "The Book of Eli," which will be directed by the directing duo Allen and Albert Hughes. The project will be financed by Warner Bros.-based Alcon Entertainment and distributed by Warner Bros.

The post-apocalyptic drama is based on a story written by Gary Whitta. It has been rewritten by Anthony Peckham. In the drama, Denzel will play "a lone hero in a not-too-distant apocalyptic future, who must fight across America to bring society the knowledge that could be the key to its redemption."

"This is an epic tale, a thriller set in a future uninviting yet hopeful, and its hero could not be better suited to Denzel Washington," Alcon's Johnson and Kosove said. "The Hughes brothers will bring a bold, contemporary edge to the story and we're excited to have this be our next film."

Denzel has two Academy Awards to date, one for best actor for 2001’s “Training Day” and another for best supporting actor for 1989’s “Glory”. He last appeared on the silver screen in 2007’s “The Great Debaters”, a drama directed by him.
