Washington, Dec 5 : Facebook has blacklisted Irish town Effin over having an offensive name.

The social networking site did not let a user, Ann Marie Kennedy list Effin as her `hometown' on her profile page as it was deemed obscene.

"It came back with an error message saying ''offensive. It will recognise Limerick, but I'm from Effin. I'm a proud Effin woman," The Daily Mail quoted Kennedy, as saying.

Kennedy tried to set up a group called `Please get my hometown Effin recognised' on Facebook, after the company failed to respond to her queries.

Though Facebook allows the word `effin' in many groups and profile names, it does not recognise it as a location.

A Facebook spokesperson said the company was looking into the issue. (ANI)
