FDA Proposes For Drug Labels Carrying Detailed Warnings

FDA Proposes For Drug Labels Carrying Detailed WarningsThe Food and Drug Administration of United States on Wednesday proposed labels that provide far more detailed information about a medication's risks and benefits for classifying drugs

Replacing a 30-year-old system, the federal agency proposed the precise and clear drug warnings for women who are pregnant or nursing, to make it easier for physicians and patients to determine whether it's safe to take the medicines.

According to the FDA’s new guidelines, the labels should not use confusing language instead the warnings should be concise statements about the potential risks a drug poses if taken during pregnancy or while nursing.

Dr. Andrew C. von Eschenbach, commissioner of the FDA said, "What we are looking for is to provide information in a way that is most useful and effective. The agency has been pushing to simplify drug warnings to reduce medication errors.”
