Gourmet Boutique Recalls Its Foods Over Listeria Contamination

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has reported that Gourmet Boutique, a New York food company has recalled 286,320 pounds of beef, pork, turkey and chicken products over possible Listeria contamination.
Listeria is a bacterium which can cause listeriosis, which can be potentially fatal. The Symptoms of listeriosis include fever, headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea and can lead to the death of babies and people with weakened immune systems.
It’s the second recall in two months by Gourmet Boutique, of Jamaica, which is touted as “America’s leading manufacturer of high-quality, ready-to-eat prepared foods.”
The United States Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service issued a Class I recall, which affects products sent to supermarkets and food stores nationwide. According to the federal agency, A Class I alert, which carries the highest priority, is issued when there is a “reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death”.
