Venus booked her berth in the quarterfinals defeating the World No. 9 Polish tennis player in straight 6-1, 6-3 at Arthur Ashe Stadium. After she was through, her younger sister Serena, secured her spot, defeating World No. 65 French player in 6-2, 6-2 straight sets at the same court.
So, on Wednesday, the Tennis world will witness the first time “Williams versus Williams” since 2003. Serena used the words "Classic" and "unique" to describe their matchups.
Williams sisters have played each other 16 times, including three times at the Open: in the final in 2001 and 2002 and in the Round of 16 in 2005. Venus prevailed in 2001, Serena prevented her from defending her title in 2002, and Venus won in 2005.
