Jenny McCarthy and Amanda Peet Go On Verbal War Over Vaccines

Jenny McCarthy and Amanda Peet Go On Verbal War Over VaccinesAmanda Peet, actress, new mom and a spokeswoman for vaccine advocacy group Every Child by Two, came under fire when she in an interview called parents who elected to not to vaccinate their children “parasites”.

She subsequently apologized saying, “I believe in my heart that my use of the word 'parasites' was mean and divisive; I completely understand why it offended some parents, and, in particular, parents of children with autism who feel that vaccines caused their illness. For this I am truly sorry." Despite her public apology she has not been forgiven by Jenny McCarthy, mother of a 6 year old autistic child.

In a statement in the upcoming issue of Spectrum magazine, which hits stands Wednesday, McCarthy said, "She (Peet) has a lot of [nerve] to come forward and be on that side, because there is an angry mob on my side, and I like the fact that I can say she's completely wrong.” McCarthy feels there is a connection between vaccines and autism and is trying to inform parents about this risk. “I look at (Peet) now and say to myself, 'That was me before I had autism in my life,’ and until she walks in our shoes, she really has no idea," McCarthy added.

Autism United, a national advocacy group, is with McCarthy in the fight against Peet and is calling for a boycott of the actress’ movies

"We want to send a clear message to her," the organization’s Executive Director, John Gilmore said. “Ms. Peet's comments are deplorable and an apology will not suffice. We applaud Jenny McCarthy's continued efforts and for speaking up for our community."

In order to put pressure on the federal government to remove toxins from vaccines and have fewer childhood vaccinations before the age of 2, McCarthy and her longtime lover Jim Carrey led a rally of thousands in Washington, D.C., this summer.

Every Child By Two, is a group that is trying to raise awareness of the importance of children getting all their vaccines by the age of 2. Rumors are rife that the American Academy of Pediatrics was on the hunt for a star to campaign for their cause to counter McCarthy’s anti-vaccine crusade and Peet came in the picture.

Former first lady Rosalynn Carter, who is the organization’s co-founder teamed up with Peet for a New York press conference to “dispel the myths” of McCarthy’s campaign.

“I am so distressed with what is happening, and now our mission has become more difficult,” Carter said. “As a result of all this there is an outbreak of measles and whooping cough.”
