Joe Biden’s disapproval of the McCain ad

Biden’s disapproval of the McCain ad

Obama’s running mate, Senator Joe Biden, has gone on record expressing his disapproval of the recent ad, by the Democrat campaign, which mocked Republican presidential candidate John McCain. In a recent interview broadcast by the ‘CBS Evening News’, Biden, on being questioned by Katie Couric about the negative tone of the campaign, agreed that this ad in particular that mocked McCain as an out-of-touch, out-of-date computer illiterate, was not in good taste.

The ad, launched earlier this month, was part of an aggressive push to depict McCain’s rise in the polls, after he chose Alaska Governor Sarah Palin to be his running mate. Included in the ad was an unflattering footage of McCain in the early 1980’s, wearing giant glasses and an out-of-style suit. The footage was interspersed with shots of a disco ball, a clunky phone, an outdated computer and a Rubik’s Cube.

The ad said: “He admits he still doesn’t know how to use a computer, can’t send an e-mail, still doesn’t understand the economy, and favors $200 billion in new tax cuts for corporations, but almost nothing for the middle class.”

Commenting on such a depiction, Biden said: “I thought that was terrible, by the way.” He also said that the campaign shouldn’t have played the ‘age’ card.

Asked why the ad was done the way it was, Biden said: “I didn’t know we did it and if I had anything to do with it, we’d have never done it.”

In reaction to Obama’s admitted approval of this ad by his campaign, Biden said: “I don’t think anything was intentional about that. They were trying to make another point.”
