California girl, Kristi on Tuesday grabbed the coveted mirror-ball trophy of “Dancing With the Stars” with her partner Mark Ballas. Yes, the Olympic gold medalist in figure skating, Kristi Yamaguchi became the new "Dancing" champ on the show's sixth season finale, after four consecutive male winners of last four seasons.
In the final contest on Tuesday, Kristi came up with a perfect score and bested fan favorites Jason Taylor and Cristian de la Fuente to claim the mirrorball trophy. The figure skater was clearly the most talented dancer on the show. Winning the majority of votes, Kristi edged out NFL star Jason Taylor and first-time finalist Edyta Sliwinsksa.
Grabbing the coveted mirror-ball trophy, Kristi said, “Honestly, from the bottom of my heart I want to thank all the fans out there and everyone involved…for making this a dream experience." Hoisting the prize above her head, she said, "This is definitely for all those women out there to continue to be strong."
On Kristi’s victory, Jason Taylor said, "I never ever thought I would get to this point. I never thought I'd do this show. Kristi is so deserving and everyone's been so fantastic…I had the time of my life. I loved it."
Yamaguchi's well-deserved victory came at about the 1:58 mark of a two-hour montage extravaganza, which started off with a performance from Usher and moved right into the first elimination of the night.
