Leanne Marshall Wins ‘Project Runway’ Design Competition

‘Project Runway’, Bravo’s hit reality design competition hosted by supermodel Heidi Klum, that has designers competing for the $100,000 jackpot, wrapped up the season finale by picking a winner Wednesday night.

Leanne Marshall, the soft-spoken designer from Portland , Ore. , beat out Korto Momolo and Kenley Collins with her wave inspired collection of white, cream and shades of turquoise. The favorite of a quartet of judges that had show mentor Tim Gunn standing in for guest judge – Jennifer Lopez, who dropped out due to a foot injury, Marshall gets $100,000 to start her own line among other prizes, including a fashion spread in Elle magazine, a 2009 Saturn VUE Hybrid and a fashion line on bluefly.com.

However, Michael Kors expressed some concern about her use of a petal construction in several of her finale garments that tended to give them a one note feel, saying: “I’m just nervous that you’re going to be known as the Queen of Petals.  You’re going to be known as Petals Marshall , which sounds like a stripper, not a designer.”

That did not deter an ecstatic Marshall from expressing her feelings.  “I’m on my way,” she said.  “My dreams are coming true.  It’s unreal.”
