Missouri Public Poll Shows, McCain Has Slight Edge Over Obama

The Public Policy PollingMissouri Public Poll Shows, McCain Has Slight Edge Over Obama revealed, on Thursday, that Sen. John McCain is slightly ahead of Sen. Barack Obama in the Show Me State, Missouri. The Republican nominee leads Obama, 47 percent to 44 percent in Missouri. According to the poll, Nine percent of voters said they were still undecided.

McCain has a stronger foothold among voters within his own party than Obama. McCain is leading among Republican voters 85 percent to 10 percent, while Obama trails a bit behind with 77 percent to 15 percent among Democrats. More importantly, McCain has the edge among independents, 46 percent to 38 percent.

Among women voters, both McCain and Obama seem to be evenly popular with McCain getting 46 percent and Obama 45 percent of their votes. On the other hand the male voters are mostly opting for the republican, with 48 percent of their votes going to McCain and 42 percent to Obama.

McCain is leading in all age groups excepting for the youngest voters. He has the senior vote, 50 percent to 40 percent, the support of middle-aged voters, 51 percent to 38 percent, and voters above 30, 46 percent to 45 percent. Obama leads among the 18 to 29-year-olds, 55 percent to 38 percent.  

These results are based on interviews of 723 likely voters from July 2-5, with the margin of error being 3.6 percent.
