MSNBC Does Away With Olbermann and Matthews as Anchors

MSNBC Does Away With Olbermann and Matthews as AnchorsMSNBC is removing Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews as anchors of live political events. This might be a result of the growing disagreements between the anchors or the Republican Party's complaints that it was getting a raw deal.

The job will now be assigned to David Gregory, the chief White House correspondent, who is being prepared for a potential MSNBC primetime slot and/or the moderator job on NBC's "Meet the Press." Olbermann and Matthews will continue to work with MSNBC as analysts.

“The most disappointing shift is to see the partisan attitude move from prime time into what’s supposed to be straight news programming,” said Davidson Goldin, former editorial director of MSNBC and co-founder of the reputation management firm DolceGoldin.

MSNBC has not exactly had a good time in the last two weeks of conventions. Olbermann, Matthews, "Morning Joe" host Joe Scarborough and anchor David Shuster quarreled over the noninterventionist direction of the channel at the Democratic convention.

MSNBC was heavily trampled in the ratings by CNN during the Democratic National Convention and by Fox News Channel during the Republican National Convention.
