Often knighted as the most formidable fundraiser, the Democratic U.S. presidential hopeful – Sen. Barack Obama has reportedly raised $55 million just in the month of February for his presidential campaign. It sounds that Obama has edged out rival Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton in fundraising for the month as well.
On Thursday, Obama Campaign Official reported, Obama’s “$55 million” is a record for any presidential campaign in a single month. Obama has raised $193 million during his yearlong bid for the White House.
According to reports, Hillary Clinton could raise just $35 million in February, the month that marked a record for her fundraising, but it is well below what Obama raised in January; Obama raised $36 million just in the month of January.
Thanking his sincere supporters, Obama said, "That's a humbling achievement, and I am very grateful for your support. No campaign has ever raised this much in a single month in the history of presidential primaries. But more important than the total is how we did it — more than 90 percent of donations were $100 or less ..."
It’s important to note that Obama campaign's announcement came just two days after Obama lost three of four primaries to Clinton. Airing their fundraisings, both Obama and Clinton camps want to show that their campaigns have enthusiastic backers.
President Bush in 2004 set the record in overall primary fundraising when raised $155 million, but Obama has raised more than $186 million for the comparable period.
Clinton campaign claimed that they raised more than $1 million in the 24 hours following her New Hampshire victory on Jan. 8. Making counter claim, Obama campaign reported that Obama raised $1.2 million the day after winning the Iowa caucuses and he raised even more in the 24 hours after losing in New Hampshire.
According to Obama Campaign, Obama’s “$55 million” has come for the primary election. Out of Obama's February money, $45 million has come thru internet, and With 385,000 new contributors, the number of total donors has gone over 1 million. On the other hand, Clinton campaign has reported that they have 30,000 new donors and their online total raised for this month is $6 million.
