Obama versus McCain — Lipstick Controversy Continues

Obama versus McCain — Lipstick Controversy ContinuesContinuing the spat of incriminations, McCain campaign is crying foul once again. Actually, it started at a campaign event in a Lebanon, Va., high school gymnasium, where Barack Obama, while commenting on his rivals' claims that they are the true agents of “change,” happened to say, "That's not change." The Illinois senator said. "That's just calling something the same thing, something different. But you know you can put lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig."

This comment did not really go down well with the campaign of Republican Sen. John McCain, who seemed to have read sexism in the remark and have demanded an apology from Obama.

Incidentally, while campaigning in Iowa last fall, McCain argued that Clinton was going back to the old reform she had promoted as first lady: "I think they put some lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig."

Obama campaign alleges that now McCain and Palin are playing the "gender card".

"What their campaign has done this morning is the same game that has made people sick and tired of politics in this country," said Obama in a Web ad on the topic. "They have seized on an innocent remark, try to take it out of context, throw up an outrageous ad, because they know it's catnip for the news media.
