Palin meets four military moms at Philadelphia eatery

Palin meets four military moms at Philadelphia eateryDuring the course of her swing through the Democratic stronghold, Philadelphia, Republican vice presidential nominee, Sarah Palin, accompanied by her 14-year old daughter, Willow, spent about 45 minutes at a downtown eatery. She sipped a skinny white chocolate mocha and talked privately with four military moms, whose children are serving in the military overseas. Her own son, 19-year-old Track, too is deploying for service in Iraq.

This was Palin’s third day in Philadelphia, the biggest city in the battleground state of Pennsylvania. She visited a downtown bar on Friday night, before the presidential debate between McCain and Obama, and a cheesesteak shop on Saturday.

Though reporters were kept at a distance, Palin did answer one question about the $700 billion economic rescue plan, spearheaded by Treasury Secretary, Henry Paulson, to bail out the financial industry.

She said Republican presidential nominee, John McCain, helped ensure that taxpayers will be protected under the new plan because he was “able to have some of those provisions implemented in that Paulson proposal.”

“I’m glad that John McCain’s voice was heard”, she said, refusing to elaborate or take follow-up questions from reporters.

When one of the military moms, Julie Devitt, got a call from her son, Glen, who was deployed to Iraq with the Army in December, the woman handed the phone to Palin, who spoke with the sergeant briefly.

Palin also posed for pictures with staff at the shop and shook hands with customers.
