The belief that plastic surgery is a domain of the fairer sex is turning into a myth. According to a new report released by the American Society of Plastic Surgery, the quintessential male is treading the path of plastic surgery more than ever in today’s times.
According to the report, the number of men getting plastic surgery from 2002 to 2007 has increased by 16%, but women still dominate the market of plastic surgery; for every plastic surgery performed on a man, nine are done on women.
According to the doctors, men remain very secretive about undergoing plastic surgery and this affects the statistical information. A few doctors are of opinion that this rise in the number of men opting for plastic surgery is due to older men, often working in sales, who find it difficult to compete with the younger men.
Men most frequently opt for procedures like en eyelid tuck, removal of extra skin for a fresher look and Liposuction. Initially it was the guys who worked out all the time, and were obsessed with their bodies, who would get such surgeries done. But now even the average man was opting more and more for plastic surgery as a short cut to enhancement of appearance.
Due to an increase in the demand there are number doctors who are not certified plastic surgeons but yet go ahead and perform plastic surgery and non-invasive treatments like Botox and Artefill, a treatment to hide wrinkles. This might be unethical according to many but is fast becoming a very lucrative job at the same time.
