Sarah Palin - CBS’ Skits And VP Debate

Alaska Governor, Sarah Palin, the surprise candidate of the Republican vice presidential ticket, can easily be termed a ‘media sensation’. In fact, she has been the source of much debate ever since her dramatic addition to the presidential elections, more so after the CBS airing of her extended interview – a disaster of epic of proportions – with Katie Couric.
Palin’s politician-cum-comedienne image has benefited ‘Saturday Night Live’ (SNL) beyond expectations, helping it thrive in the ratings. The two skits, in which Palin’s look-alike, Tina Fey, impersonated her, have been uproariously funny, aggravating the worries of the conservatives in the GOP that Palin was a poor appointment by the McCain camp.
Tina Fey’s Sarah Palin and Amy Poehler’s Hillary Clinton constituted the first skit, which was a joint press conference of the two. Fey was apparently ruthless in portraying Palin as a deliriously unqualified ‘small-towner’. The second skit was a parody of Palin’s Couric interview. That the actual interview was bad was evident, but Fey’s Palin actually was more reasonable and lucid than the actual Palin during the real interview.
Reacting to how close to mark was Fey’s impression of Palin in the skits, Palin’s sister, Heather Bruce told The Insider: “It is really dead on physically. Tina does a great job. Maybe she goes a little bit overboard with the sarcastic impressions, but I know that’s Hollywood.”
In a two-part interview scheduled for airing Thursday and Friday, Bruce also talked about the media scrutiny of Palin, particularly her much-dissected interview with Katie Couric. Bruce said that though she herself could not make herself watch it, Sarah could “handle this.”
Expressing confidence in Palin, and predicting her handling of her crucial debate with Senator Joe Biden, Bruce opined that the debate was sure to bring “some new great surprises and great revelations.”
