Sen. Amy Klobuchar Endorses Obama

Sen. Amy KlobucharSen. Amy Klobuchar was the latest of the prominent superdelegates, who left Sen. Hillary Clinton in lurch to strengthen Sen. Barack Obama campaign on Monday. Amy Klobuchar, one of Minnesota's superdelegates to the Democratic National Convention, who had been reluctant to reject Clinton, even though Obama had easily won her state Feb. 5, finally decided to bow before Obama’s might.

In a statement endorsing the Illinois senator, Sen. Amy Klobuchar compared Obama to Minnesota icon Hubert H. Humphrey, saying Obama has a "different voice" and is "bringing a new perspective and inspiring a real excitement from the American people." She said her decision reflects Obama's success in Minnesota as well as "my own independent judgment about his abilities." Commenting on whether Clinton should drop out of the race, Klobuchar said, “She should stay in as long as she wants to.”

Hence, Sen. Amy Klobuchar has become the ninth of the state's 14 known superdelegates to go for Obama, with three endorsing Clinton and two still uncommitted. The DFL party will choose two more superdelegates at the state convention in June.
