Spears Will Open This Year’s MTV Video Music Awards On Sunday It’s official that pop star, this year’s MTV Video Music Awards will open this year’s MTV Video Music Awards; the diva will be staring the ceremony, a year after a botched comeback performance at the same award ceremony.

The MTV Website states that Spears will open the 2008 MTV VMA on Sunday, September 7 at Paramount Studios in Hollywood, Los Angeles, but she will not perform. MTV has not clearly announced what Spears will do to open the show.

In a statement, MTV Networks Music President Van Toffler said, "I can't wait to see what she does to kick off this year's show.”

On her taking part in the event once again, Spears said, “MTV has long played an important role in my career. How can I not be there to kick off their 25th VMA? I'm excited to open the entire show, to say hi to my fans and to be nominated.”

Spears, who is nominated for Best Female Video, Best Pop Video and Video of the Year for 'Piece of Me', recently appeared in VMA promos alongside British comedian Russell Brand, who will be hosting the event.
