Bridgeport (Connecticut, US), May 6 : Thirty-year-old Pakistani American terror suspect Faisal Shahzad lived in a non-descript bachelor''s pad in Bridgeport on the outskirts of New York city.
According to the New York Daily News, the grayish carpet and beige walls offer no hint whatsoever of the diabolical plot that was conjured inside.
Shahzad slept on an air mattress, drank instant coffee, lifted free weights and plotted a Times Square terror attack inside the drab 1,150-dollar-a-month Connecticut apartment, authorities believe.
He bolted from his two-bedroom home so quickly Monday that he abandoned his Nike running shoes, a half-filled cup of coffee and green-covered Koran.
Five dead in Connecticut power plant explosion

A survivor who was 50 feet off the ground building scaffolding when the blast hit told the Daily News the carnage was terrible.
"I saw the guys below me just got flattened. There was a group of them. I don''t know how many," the New York Daily News quoted Nick, a worker from Norwich, whose hard-hat and glasses were knocked off by the force of the explosion.
His face was streaked with dirt and tears.
A dozen workers were hospitalised after the blast at the Kleen Energy Plant, which was nearing completion in Middletown, a college town about 15 miles south of Hartford.

Bisphenol A Ban In Manufacturing Baby Bottles and Containers

The FDA guidelines do not state BPA as harmful for infants. But it has received severe criticism for its decision from the Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal.

After four years of legal wrangling in the state court system, the Connecticut Supreme Court on Friday struck down a ban on gay and lesbian marriage, thereby allowing full-fledged marriage for same-sex couples. The court ruled 4-3 that a ban on gay marriage constituted “cognizable harm” and infringed on a “fundamental right” of same-sex couples.

One of Hollywood’s top actors, the legendary , eventually lost his long battle to cancer on Friday. The film star - widely known for brilliant blue eyes, good looks, cool style and talent - died at age 83, at his farmhouse near Westport, Connecticut. Newman’s publicist, Jeff Sanderson, said when the end came, the star - who was nominated for Academy Awards 10 times and won an Oscar in 1987 for his role in ‘The Colour of Money’ - was surrounded by his close family and friends.
US EPA: New Englanders Breathed Easy This Summer

Compared to 2007, people from New England states except Vermont had fewer poor air quality days and as a result, they breathed easier this summer.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency says summer 2008 had 28-days as compared to 53-days when ozone monitors recorded concentrations above health standards.
Five of the region’s six states had fewer poor air quality days between April and September compared to the same period last year.

A recent study has said that achieving sexual satisfaction is more in the mind than in the body. Researchers from the University of Southern California and Yale University undertook a study and came to the conclusion that the brain, not the hormones were responsible for sexual pleasure.

is closing in the three major battleground states, with Republican John McCain holding an advantage among white male voters and Democrat Barack Obama keeping his lead among the youngest voters, according to a new Quinnipiac University poll.
McCain and Obama are evenly poised in Colorado, Michigan and Minnesota while the Illinois senator has an edge in Wisconsin, according to the poll conducted in partnership with the Wall Street Journal during the past week.
HP Tops In Worldwide PC Sales; Dell Leads In US

According to the surveys released by the Stamford, Connecticut based analyst firm Gartner, HP has again topped the charts in worldwide PC sales with 13.3 million units sold and 18.1 percent market share. Dell (15.6 percent), Acer (9.4 percent), Lenovo (7.8 percent), and Toshiba (4.4 percent), are among the top five vendors, behind HP. The worldwide PC shipments have increased by 16 percent.
Dell has again taken lead in the US, with 31.9 percent market share and 5.25 million units sold, followed by HP 25.3 percent with 4.17 million units sold.

John McCain might be having the support of Connecticut's Democratic-turned-Independent Sen. Joe Lieberman, but a poll conducted by Quinnipiac University revealed on Wednesday that Obama rules Connecticut.
Douglas Schwartz, the Poll Director said, “At this stage of the campaign, Sen. Barack Obama is rolling over Sen. John McCain in Connecticut. Quinnipiac University also has conducted surveys in seven swing states in the last two weeks and Sen. Obama is ahead in every one.”

GE Looks To Sell Its Appliances Unit

According to US business media reports, the Fairfield, Connecticut-based General Electric Company is looking to sell its appliances unit – one of the longest-running businesses in the conglomerate’s 120-year history.
The company has hired Goldman Sachs to run the auction, which could bring in $5 billion to $8 billion.
