Jindal is cracking down on fake bath salts used by drug dealers

Louisiana (US), Jan. 12: What could possibly be menacing about bath salts? Well, if you are the Indian-origin Governor of the American state of Louisiana, the issue is actually more than serious than it sounds.
According to Politico, Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal has had his office put out a press release announcing that drug dealers are using fake bath salts to repackage speed-like amphetamines known as "Cloude Nine," "White Dove" and "Hurricane Charlie."
Jindal said that he has made the sale of such imposter bath salts illegal.
Scientists double the estimate of oil flow into Gulf of Mexico

Louisiana (US), June 11 : Scientists have warned that the flow rate of the oil spill into the Gulf of Mexico could actually be greater due to the cutting of the riser to position the cap pipe.
The New York Times has quoted these scientists, who are part of a governmental panel, as saying that it would be another few days to estimate the current flow rate.
So far, the panel has doubled its estimate of the amount of oil that had gushed for weeks from the out-of-control BP well even before the latest attempt to cap it.

The Crescent City is seeing stars again. Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie and three of their kids were spotted in New Orleans on Monday after stopping in New York over the weekend for the Changeling premiere.
Jolie was spotted walking around the French Quarter district in a long black casual-but-chic dress with children Pax, Zahara and Shiloh in tow
The gorgeous family then stopped in a shop called Verdi Mart for some snacks. (Looks like Britney isn't the only famous mommy letting her kids chow down on Choreetos!)

US Representative, William Jefferson, garnered a quarter of voters in his Congressional district to secure a spot in a November 4 runoff, as he overcame the stigma of a federal bribery indictment in Louisiana’s Democratic primary on Saturday.
Jefferson - Louisiana’s first black congressman since Reconstruction - is seeking his 10th term in Congress - he has won the New Orleans-based 2nd Congressional District seat nine times. His runoff opponent, Helena Moreno, a political newcomer and former television reporter, is incidentally the only white candidate in the race.

CDC: Southern States Lead In The U.S. Obesity

The latest U.S. government figures has shown that more than a quarter of all Americans are obese with the South topping the list again. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has reported that the percentage of obese adults rose by 2 % from 24 % in 2005 to 25.6 % in 2007. Among the Southern states, Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee are the worst off with 30 % of adults being obese.

Train Derailment Causes Hydrochloric Acid Leak In Lafayette, Louisiana
Submitted by Carina Rose on Sun, 05/18/2008 - 04:39The accidental derailing of six cars of a freight train forced thousands of people to evacuate homes, businesses and a nursing home within one mile of the wreck Saturday in Lafayette, Louisiana. What happened actually was that the wreck caused a hydrochloric acid leak, which forced people do so.
Lafayette Parish sheriff's Lt. Craig Stansbury told that the spilled acid sent a toxic cloud over the area, and at least five people, including two railroad workers, were taken to a hospital and treated after complaining of skin and eye irritation.
