Granny dies a day after getting college degree
Submitted by Jamie Williamson on Wed, 01/27/2010 - 15:40New Hampshire (US), Jan 27 : A retired schoolteacher, who cherished becoming a college graduate till her 100th birthday, died just a day after realising her life-long dream.
Harriet Richardson Ames, who celebrated her 100th birthday on Jan 2, earned a bachelor's degree just a day before she died in New Hampshire Saturday.
Harriet's health was failing, and she was under hospice care, Press TV reported Wednesday.
"Harriet was so moved that she started to cry," said Norma Walker, coordinator of the Keene State College Golden Circle Society, New Hampshire, who delivered a certificate to Ames last week.
"If I die tomorrow, I'll know I'll die happy, because my degree's in the works," Walker recalled Harriet as saying.

US EPA: New Englanders Breathed Easy This Summer

Compared to 2007, people from New England states except Vermont had fewer poor air quality days and as a result, they breathed easier this summer.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency says summer 2008 had 28-days as compared to 53-days when ozone monitors recorded concentrations above health standards.
Five of the region’s six states had fewer poor air quality days between April and September compared to the same period last year.

It appears from the recent Obama McCain New Hampshire pre-election opinion polls that Barack Obama and John McCain are going pretty close - going almost neck and neck in the presidential race in New Hampshire.
Out of three opinion polls conducted uptill now, Obama has 1 % point lead over McCain in two polls, and McCain, on the other hand according to Zogby Interactive poll, has 4 % points’ lead over Obama. So, statistically they are pretty close.

A recent poll conducted by the University of New Hampshire shows that John McCain and Barack Obama are statistically running neck-to-neck in New Hampshire.
Barack Obama has 46 percent of the votes, 3 percent more than John McCain who has 43 percent of the votes. 8 percent remain undecided.
McCain seems to be popular among conservatives, older voters and those living near Massachusetts, while Obama has the votes of liberals, younger voters and those living along the seacoast.
