In what turned out to be a shocker of a game, French qualifier Julie Coin, ranked 188th in the world ousted world No. 1 Ana Ivanovic from the 2008 U.S. Open on Thursday. The 25-year-old Coin, beat Ivanovic 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 in second-round action at the 2008 U.S. Open which took place at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
New York City’s HIV Rate Three Times The National Rate

According to estimates released Wednesday by the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, New York City has a HIV infection rate which is three times the national rate.
The Big Apple has an incidence of 72 new infections for every 100,000 people, compared with 23 per 100,000 nationally. These findings are based on new lab technology and a recently derived statistical code by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention giving the most precise estimate the city had ever offered.
Jankovic, Kuznetsova, Dementieva Emerge As Second Round Winners

Former world No. 1 Jelena Jankovic, former champion and last year's runner-up Svetlana Kuznetsova, and Olympic gold medalist Elena Dementieva emerged as winners of the third round on Wednesday at the U.S. Open.
The second-seeded Jankovic beat Swede Sofia Arvidsson 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 7-5 in 2 hours, 45 minutes.
Jankovic, who held the No. 1 ranking for one week just two weeks ago, seemed to be sailing smoothly on Day 3, up a set and serving for the match at 5-4 in the second, till she was confronted by Arvidsson.

Predictably, strong contenders in the men’s tournament seem to be the three top players Rafael Nadal, who started strongly on Day 1, and Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic, both of whom will play on Tuesday.
But the women’s tournament seems to be thrown wide open. Two not so popular players have caught people’s attention this week. Elena Dementieva, got off to winning start in round one. Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark is the other and she was up an early break in the first against Ahsha Rolle of Miami when this report was filed.
U.S. News & World Report Releases The List Of Top Colleges Of The Nation

U.S. News & World Report’s annual list of the nation’s best colleges, released on Friday, has Harvard right at the top knocking out Princeton, which was on first slot for the last three years.
Yale comes in third, followed by Massachusettes Institute of Technology (MIT) and Stanford. MIT and Stanford tie for the fourth slot.
California Institute of Technology (Caltech) ties for sixth with the University of Pennsylvania.

Reported in the August 11 - 25 issue of Archives of Internal Medicine, the study at the University of Tübingen in Germany studied obese participants and found that their cardiovascular risk factors of insulin sensitivity and artery wall thickness did not greatly differ from those with a normal body weight.

and lost weight soon after being diagnosed were more likely to be able to control their disease as compared to people who didn’t lose weight or those who gained weight.
Gregory A. Nichols, PhD, an investigator for Kaiser Permanente's Center for Health Research in Portland, Ore., and a co-author of the study said, "People who lost weight were more likely to attain their blood sugar and blood pressure goals than people who gained weight or maintained a stable weight."
