Wisconsin School Bans Cakes and Candies
Submitted by Carina Rose on Wed, 10/15/2008 - 05:54A school in Wisconsin district has banned children from sharing cakes and candies as a treat. Instead the children would host a treat by sharing vegetables and fruits with their friends.
But the school authorities have received a criticism for their hard line stance. One of the parents Vicki Denzin said "Banning these items does not teach our children how to balance their diet or eat in moderation," Denzin said. "Dietitians don't teach morbidly obese patients or severe diabetic people to completely ban sweets. Rather, they teach moderation, portion control and calorie count." She has also made an appeal to the Board of Education to reconsider the ban.
Four Wisconsin research institutions Collaborate On Genomics Project
Submitted by Carina Rose on Mon, 10/13/2008 - 05:02Four academic research institutions in Wisconsin will collaborate to make the state a leader in individualized medicine, a science that would treat patients based on their own DNA said Gov. Jim Doyle.
Scientists from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, UW-Milwaukee, the Medical College of Wisconsin and the Marshfield Clinic, would join up to form the Wisconsin Medical Research Triangle the governor added.
At a news conference in Marshfield Doyle said, “Never before have these four institutions worked together on a project of this significance, size and scope.”

A recently-conducted study by the Researchers at the University of Wisconsin-Madison revealed that overeating causes brain to function erratically. Overeating triggers a vicious cycle. This leads to various diseases like diabetes and heart diseases.
The researchers have been able to find the root cause of this disorder and can find a cure to prevent overeating.

Dane county has imposed a ban on smoking in all the towns from next year. The ban is applicable in all workplaces, bars and restaurants. “The statewide smoking ban in the legislature was like Bambi vs. Godzilla. It never stood a chance,” said de Felice. “In the final analysis, people are dying. Is there anything else we have to know?”

Contrary to the popular perception that McCain has spent more time alleging incriminations, Obama aired more negative advertising last week than did the Arizona Se, revealed a study released yesterday.
If 56 percent of the ads aired by the McCain camp were negative then 76 percent of those produced by Obama campaign were of similar nature.

According to a new study, people with severe sleep apnea stand a three time’s greater risk of dying prematurely and the risk increase if the disorder is not treated. Sleep apnea is an interrupted nighttime breathing disorder, which is often accompanied by snoring and causes frequent pauses in breathing patterns during sleep. Six percent adults in the U.S. suffer from moderate to severe forms of sleep apnea while 17% suffer from less severe sleep apnea.
