Study: Watermelon Causes Same Type Of Effect As "Viagra"The new study by researchers at Texas A&M found that watermelon caused the same type of effect as Viagra and other drugs used for erectile dysfunction. The research was focused on the impact watermelon had on the body.

According to the researchers, watermelon was richer than they thought it would be in the amino acid called citrulline which relaxes and dilates blood vessels just like Viagra and other drugs used for erectile dysfunction.

Bhimu Patil, director of Texas A&M's Fruit and Vegetable Improvement Center, said, “Watermelon may not be as organ-specific as Viagra, but it's a great way to relax blood vessels without any drug side-effects.”

The study articulates that there are three nutrients in watermelon that make it healthy and can help enhance libido. These nutrients are citrulline, beta carotene and lycopene. Citulline in addition to relaxing blood vessels, also promotes energy.

Beta Carotene, healthy phyto-nutrient in watermelon, is also present in red peppers, carrots, paprika, grape leaves, chili powder, and sweet potatoes, according to a query on Nutrition Data.

Lycopene can be found in watermelon and also in other fruits and vegetables like tomatoes, rose hips, guavas, grapefruits and persimmons.
