The “Beaver State”Top News Oregon Democratic Primary Facts – Oregon has total of 65 delegates for the 2008 Democratic National Convention – Of these, 52 are pledged delegates allocated proportionally and 13 are unpledged superdelegates.

The 52 pledged delegates include 7 from Oregon's 1st congressional district, 5 from Oregon's 2nd congressional district, 9 Oregon's 3rd congressional district, 7 from Oregon's 4th congressional district, 6 from Oregon's 5th congressional district, 12 at large, and 6 Pledged Superdelegates.

Oregon has 13 unpledged superdelegates, which include Governor Ted Kulongoski, Senator Ron Wyden, Congressman David Wu, Congressman Earl Blumenauer, Congressman Peter DeFazio, Congresswoman Darlene Hooley, Secretary of State Bill Bradbury, DNC member Frank Dixon, DNC member Jenny Greenleaf, DNC member Wayne Kinney, DNC member Gail Rasmussen, DNC member and DPO chair Meredith Wood Smith, and 1 unpledged delegate to be elected at the state Democratic convention in June.

The Oregon Democratic Primary is a “Mail-Only Primary” in the United States. The ballots, mailed to registered Democratic voters between May 2 and May 6, 2008, will be received by county elections offices by 8:00 p.m on 20 May for counting. The voters, who were registered as Democrats by April 29, 2008, were sent ballots. So, it’s a closed primary, but the winner will be decided thru mailed ballots. According to recent Oregon polls, Sen. Barack Obama leads Sen. Hillary Clinton by 5 – 7 % points among the Oregon Democratic Primary voters.
