Alabama (US), Dec 24 : For the 31st consecutive year, The University of Alabama Office of Media Relations offers predictions from faculty experts for the coming year.
In 2012, it has offered 15 predictions.
.Obama likely to win re-election in 2012, but his Republican opponent will not be one of the current candidates battling one another in the early primaries.
. The University of Alabama, predicts the United States will continue to ease trade sanctions on Cuba and, as early as this time next year, some U. S. businesses will visit the island nation on state-sponsored trade missions to size up market potential.

John McCain is currently having big lead over Barack Obama in Alabama, Alaska, Idaho, Mississippi, and Montana — that’s what say the September’s Obama vs McCain polls conducted in these states.
Alabama has 9 Electoral College votes. Capital Survey Research Center/Alabama Education Association’s McCain vs Obama AL poll, conducted from September 3 to September 9, showed McCain leading Obama by 20 % points— 55 % to 35 % among the registered voters of Alabama.

Researchers found that magnesium sulfate given to women who were at risk of delivering a premature baby reduced the risk of cerebral palsy by nearly half. In the United States every year about 8,000 babies and infants are diagnosed with cerebral palsy and premature birth is a major cause of this neurological disorder.

Study: Early Puberty Makes Girls Aggressive

The study published in the August issue of the JAMA/Archives journals, Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine, revealed that adolescent girls who reach puberty early and have parents who spend less quality time with them are more likely to be aggressive in nature.
Conduct problems, delinquency and substance use are just a few things which are related to early puberty. The study also added that many of these problems persist through adolescence and into early adulthood.
CDC: Southern States Lead In The U.S. Obesity

The latest U.S. government figures has shown that more than a quarter of all Americans are obese with the South topping the list again. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has reported that the percentage of obese adults rose by 2 % from 24 % in 2005 to 25.6 % in 2007. Among the Southern states, Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee are the worst off with 30 % of adults being obese.
