Washington, Oct 6: The US has dominated the latest universities' global ranking list.
The Times Higher Education magazine's rankings placed 75 US universities in the top 200 category.
The list also showed 32 UK universities in the top 200 category, and Oxford, Cambridge and Imperial College among the top 10 universities.
UK Universities Minister David Willetts said the list showed that the country's university are the "world''s best- performing".
However, according to the list, the number of UK institutions in the top 100 category has declined, the BBC reports.
California alone has three institutions in this global top 10.
The Boston area has two institutions, Harvard and Massachusetts Institute of Technology, in the top 10 category.
"With as many as seven million students predicted to be studying outside their home country within the next few years, and with international research collaboration at the top of government agendas, these world university rankings are more important than ever," Times Higher Education Editor Ann Mroz said.
"Ranking universities is fraught with difficulties and we have many concerns about their accuracy," Russell Universities' Group Director General Wendy Piatt said.
She warned that UK universities'' success in the global education scenario depended on funding.
"We certainly can''t rest on our laurels. Our global competitors are pumping billions into higher education and snapping at our heels. Money really matters," she said. (ANI)
