US Overthrows Spain, Clenches Olympic Gold

US Overthrows Spain, Clenches Olympic GoldThe United States won in Olympic men's basketball on Sunday with a 118-107 victory over Spain, thus clenching the gold medal. Dwyane Wade scored 27 points and Kobe Bryant added 20, including 13 in the final quarter, to guide the United States to victory.

"This feels great," said Wade. "We haven't won gold in eight years. A lot of people doubted that NBA stars could play together."

"After I got into foul trouble early, I played a little cautious," said Bryant. "But in the fourth quarter, Coach K told me to let that momma loose, and that's what I tried to do.”

"I'm proud of our guys. We played with great character in one of the great games in international basketball history, I think," U.S. coach Mike Krzyzewski exclaimed.

Rudy Fernandez scored 22 points and Pau Gasol scored 21 for Spain, which was within four points late in the final quarter.

Soaking in their moment of glory, after congratulating Spain, the team joined in a circle, jumping up and down at center court and waving triumphantly to the crowd as Krzyzewski celebrated on the sidelines.

The Americans had won their first seven games by 30.3 points, including a 119-82 overthrow of Spain. But they never seemed to have control over this game, giving up open looks from the perimeter and plenty of points in the paint.
