Joe Biden’s selection as Barack Obama’s running mate evoked mixed reaction from the supporters of Hillary Clinton on Saturday; some, who have been deep-rootedly associated with the Democratic Party, decided to respect the party’s decision, but some were really dejected, and some were unable to digest it.
Sen. Obama announced Saturday that Biden, a senator from Delaware for the past 36 years, would be his running mate.
Clinton delegate from Portland, Oregon, Susan Castner said that she sees some of Clinton's qualities in Biden. She likes his experience, especially on foreign policy. She said, “It really kind of humanizes Barack Obama. He has this air of perfection, and Joe Biden is more down to earth.”
“I love his passion. I like him a lot," Castner said of Biden.
Diane Mantouvalos, co-founder of the Just Say No Deal Coalition and one of the most ardent Clinton supporters, who refuse to back Obama, regardless of pleas from Clinton herself, said, "It's a total diss to Sen. Clinton, in my opinion. It just speaks volumes about how Barack Obama doesn't stand for anything."
John West, another of Clinton supporters said he was not excited about Biden, but he had little hope that Clinton would get the nod.
Meanwhile, Clinton, in a statement issued on Saturday, praised Obama's decision and called Biden "an exceptionally strong, experienced leader and devoted public servant."
