Video clip by student leads to arrest of burglars  New Delhi, Dec 16 :  A video clip of a break-in made by a student on his mobile phone led to the arrest of three burglars in the national capital, police said Wednesday.

"A cell phone clipping taken by a student from the key hole of his house while the burglars were attempting to commit burglary in the opposite house led to the arrest of Akhil (21), Sunil (22) and Ajay (22). They were involved in 27 incidents of burglaries and thefts," Deputy Commissioner of Police (south Delhi) H. G. S. Dhaliwal said.    

The arrested were part of the notorious Jagran gang. The clip was made when the assailants tried to break into a house in south Delhi.    

Akhil alias Jagran hails from Bihar while the other two are resident of south Delhi.

They were arrested Tuesday and police recovered stolen jewellery worth Rs. 400,000 from them.

"They used to commit burglaries in government colonies during day time posing as the devotees. They would identify and target houses by carrying out recee
(reconnaissance) on the pretext of issuing Mata Jagran (religious function) slips," Dhaliwal added.

The police said they have been committing burglary and thefts in government colonies since 2002.

They had been arrested thrice from Defence colony, C. R. Park, Sangam Vihar and Trans Yamuna area.

"They have spent many years in jail. They nicknamed the group as Jagran gang and their leader was also given an alias of Jagran. Sunil was given name of Govinda because he used to dance like the film actor," the police officer said.    

According to police, the gang preferred houses at first and second floor of the multi-storeyed buildings in government colonies of Nanakpura, Moti Bagh, Sarojini Nagar, Sewa Nagar, Kotla, Lodhi Colony and Laxmibai Nagar.

"They are addicted to spasmosproxyvon tablet which keep them high to execute their nefarious activities. They also spent money lavishly on their girl friends," he added.(IANS)
